Narative Task

This is the film cover from the 2013 film blockbuster Olympus has fallen.
   Immediately we get the impression that the white house is involved in some form of attack due to the denotation of the burning building. We can also gather the genre is action/ military by looking at the explosions taking place on the cover.
The most interesting thing about this cover, for me, is the subtle American flag fluttering in front of the main picture. Firstly the two colours of the American flag entice me the most. The harshness of the red in the stripes connotate danger and hazards that are to come in the film. However the coolness of the blue shows us that some good will come in the end. Also the way the flag has been slashed and burned boosts my earlier theory that America comes under some form of attack.
  As I said earlier we can see the White house in the background, showing us that the film is set in Washington DC.
Finally, the piece of text above the house in the picture 'When our flag falls, our nation will rise' entices the viewer. The bold block capital font gives the text a powerful tone yet the light blue colour against the sky in the background gives a softness to it. This is why I believe that the film will be a struggle between binary opposites (good and evil) throughout.
